Lakewood 400 Antiques Market - November 18, 19, and 20!

I am getting lots of hits from readers looking for deals for the Lakewood 400 Antiques Market going on this weekend.  Sadly, I can not find any coupons or discounts for it like the one they had back in March and June.  pout!

But . . . if you have jewelry or furniture that needs restored or repaired, they will handle it there for you.  They also have a traveling framer who offers on-site framing.

More info:
  • Open 3rd weekend monthly
  • 9am - 5 pm Friday
  • 9am - 6pm Saturday
  • 10 am - 5 pm Sunday
  • $3 Admission Friday - Sunday (good all weekend) (children under 12 free)
Happy Shopping!

Kevn Kinney and Findlay Brown at The Old Crow

A few nights ago we stopped by The Old Crow in Sandy Springs for a late dinner.   It's a fantastic little hole in the wall with amazing food, hdtv, pool tables, and lots and lots of delicious live music!

They are hosting Kevn Kinney of Drivin' and Cryin' and Findlay Brown this Sunday night at 8:30.  I have not seen these gentlemen perform, but am told it is a show not to be missed.  Here is a review from someone who has been there - done that - loved it - Chris Martin of The Examiner.

So, call your sitters now for Sunday night and stop by The Old Crow for amazing food, great people, and some beautiful live jams!   Hope to see you there!

For reviews on The Old Crow you can check out Yelp or UrbanSpoon.

SweetWater Brewery Expansion. yay!

Thanks to 360 Media and the guys over at SweetWater Brewery, I was one of the luckies who got to do a "Behind the Construction" media tour and happy hour.  My friend Justin is a HUGE Sweetwater fan AND consumer so I asked him to go with me.  He was, most assuredly,  like a kid in a candy store. The best candy store EVER.  Not really being a beer drinker myself, he was happy to help out with the tastings and had more than a few samplings of their new brews and a few of his old favorites as well.  I did try some of their Fresh Sticky Nugs.  Yummy! I feel silly trying to say all the proper beer terms, because I have no idea what I'm talking about, so for you beer fans, here is a review from BeerAdvocate.com

and for the REAL beer connoisseurs:

Malts: 2-row, Wheat, Munich, Chocolate
Hops: Nugget, Columbus, Centennial,
with Fresh Nugget dry hop
Beginning Gravity: 19.5 Plato
Final Gravity: 5 Plato
ABV: 8.0% IBU’s: 130

This is a happy little video for SweetWater fans of the "Behind the Construction".  It is also a really cool video to watch with your kidlets who are into watching diggers, and backhoes, and other construction whatnot.

Stop by the brewery Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays from 5:30 - 7:30 and starting Saturday's 2:30 - 4:30 for brewery tours and tastings.  The tour is just $10 and you get a souvenir pint glass and 6 drink tickets (each good for a half a pint of beer).  Visit on Wednesdays, check in on foursquare and save yourself a buck on the tour too!

SAVE THE DATE for the

80 different invitees will be there, each creating a one of a kind cask. A beer drinkers heaven of real ales created by retailers, media peeps, home brewers and SweetWaters favorite charities.

Tickets are available online for $35 and day of at $40 (although they sold out last year) for unlimited Cask samples. SweetWater's killer lineup will be flowing as well and the brewery will be open for tours throughout the event. Rain or Shine.  This year there will have almost 20,000 square feet of tents so your beer stays covered. Visit here for all the details.  So moms and dads - book those sitters or grandmas and make it a stay downtown overnight kinda date! See you there!

10 Tips to Save Energy Today

10 Tips to Save Energy TodayEasy low-cost and no-cost ways to save energy and money.

1. Install a programmable thermostat to keep your house comfortably warm in the winter and comfortably cool in the summer.

2. Use energy efficient light bulbs with the ENERGY STAR® label.

3. Air dry dishes instead of using your dishwasher's drying cycle.

4. Turn off your computer and monitor when not in use.

5. Plug home electronics, such as TVs and DVD players, into power strips; turn the power strips off when the equipment is not in use (TVs and DVDs in standby mode still use several watts of power).

6. Lower the thermostat on your hot water heater to 120°F.

7. Take short showers instead of baths.

8. Wash only full loads of dishes and clothes.

9. Caulk, seal, and weather strip all seams, cracks, and openings to the outside.

Blonde Moments or Parenting Moments . . . hmm??

Okay.  So no judging here.  I am going to share with you a few of the "blonde" things I have said or done since I've had children.  You know, those adorable little creatures who sneak away with your brain cells when you're not looking.  Even before they arrive they somehow manage to make you blonder. lol.

Here you are my dear friends, my blonde soul . . .   be gentle with it . . .

I should tell you first though,  I still have issues with deciding quickly which is my left hand and which is my right, I have been known to use my fingers as a calculator from time to time - okay - every time, and I confuse the word Lebanese with lesbian.  And sadly, this was way before kids could be blamed.

BC (before children) I was a paralegal.  I did real estate closings daily.  Once I got pregnant though, the closings ran a bit less efficiently. If it was an a.m. closing, I would usually have to excuse myself to throw-up. Multiple times.  As if that wasn't distracting enough to the new home buyers, their attorney, their mortgage broker, and all other parties in the room, as the closing continued I would forget the names of simple things - say like the mortgage or deed.  The words WOULD NOT flow to my brain.   Picture also, I did not look pregnant at all.

When my first two were little, we had a pool in the backyard.  One day I looked out the window and noticed the pool gate open.  In that "mom voice", you know, the one you get when you are momentarily terrified out of your mind, I yelled out, where is Nick (who was 1ish at the time).  To which my brother replied, "ahm.  you're holding him".    WOW!  He had officially become an appendage LOL!

A few years back I texted my oldest son Ryan and asked, "Where did the Spanish Inquisition happen?"   He didn't respond.  I had to look it up.  Spain just seemed too obvious to me.

Before house phones were virtually obsolete, I misplaced 5 of them.   One time I was driving home and in the middle of the street where I turned to go into my subdivision I saw a phone in the road. It was mine. Smashed.  I had left it on the back of the Suburban, got distracted with kidlets,  and then drove off with it.  I did this more than once!  And if I didn't drive off with it, I lost it somewhere else.  Mark finally resorted to really really cheap house phones.

I love my blonde moments, they make funny memories, life much less dull, and make me laugh out loud.  And when you have one of those moments when you say to yourself, "I think these kids are making me go crazy", know this - they are!  But it is a beautiful, harmless crazy.

I also LOVE blonde jokes, like this OnStar spoof my brother told me about years ago.  BlondeStar. Ridiculous!  LOL.  And if you want to make someone feel really blonde - try this knock knock joke out my sons pulled on me . . .

You:  Hey, I have a great knock knock joke for you.
Them:  oh yeah,
You:  Yeah, you start
Them:  Knock Knock
;-)

(note:  not to digress, but . . . after the multiple phone loss incidents, plus a few other "crazy" things, I went to the doctor and found out my thyroid had basically shut down - soooo . . . it wasn't completely a blonde thing! Thyroid issues can make you feel depressed, unusually tired, and really really BLONDE.  Visit here to see the symptoms and whatnot of hypothyroidism.
